Top 5 Bucket List Destinations for 2027

There’s something exciting about looking ahead to the trips you really want to take.

The ones that feel a little bigger. A little more intentional. The kinds of vacations you talk about for years afterward.

And honestly? 2027 is shaping up to be the perfect year to start planning those bucket list experiences early. The destinations people are dreaming about right now are filling farther in advance than ever before… especially for luxury resorts, cruises, and guided experiences.

These are five destinations I think are absolutely worth adding to your list for 2027.

TL;DR: Best Bucket List Trips to Plan for 2027

  • Japan for culture, food, and unforgettable experiences

  • Costa Rica for adventure + luxury relaxation

  • Mexico for elevated beach resorts and easy travel

  • Cruising for stress-free travel and seeing multiple destinations

  • Disney for immersive vacations that truly work for all ages

The best bucket list trips combine meaningful experiences, thoughtful planning, and destinations that fit your travel style.

Japan: The Ultimate Bucket List Destination for 2027

Historic Kyoto street lined with traditional Japanese architecture and scenic walkways in Japan.

It’s one of those places that feels completely different from anywhere else in the world. You can spend the morning exploring ancient temples in Kyoto and the evening walking through the bright lights of Tokyo. The food is incredible. The culture is immersive. The attention to detail in hospitality is unmatched. And when it comes to accommodations, my initial go-to recommendations are typically a Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton property because the level of luxury, consistency, and service is so dependable… especially for a destination like Japan where the experience itself is such a big part of the trip.

I also love that Japan can work for so many different travel styles:

  • Luxury travelers

  • Food-focused travelers

  • Families

  • Honeymooners

  • Disney fans (Tokyo Disney is HIGH on my personal list)

And because Japan requires a lot of moving pieces — hotels, trains, regional transportation, timing logistics — it’s one of those destinations where thoughtful planning really matters.

Costa Rica: Adventure Meets Relaxation

Costa Rica is one of my favorite recommendations for travelers who want a mix of relaxation and adventure.

One day you’re ziplining through the rainforest or seeing wildlife, and the next you’re sitting at a luxury resort overlooking the ocean.

I stayed at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo (middle image below) and absolutely loved it — Costa Rica has this incredible ability to feel adventurous while still being deeply relaxing. And for travelers wanting to experience the Arenal Volcano area, I highly recommend Nayara Tented Camp for its unique views, immersive nature experience, and unforgettable setting.

It’s also a fantastic option for:

  • Families

  • Couples trips

  • Multigenerational travel

  • Travelers wanting nature + luxury together

And flights from the U.S. are often much easier than people expect.

Mexico: Elevated Resorts Beyond the Typical Beach Vacation

Beachfront infinity pool and luxury resort cabanas at Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos in Mexico overlooking the ocean.

Mexico continues to be one of my favorite destinations because it can be so much more than a typical all-inclusive beach trip. There are some truly incredible luxury properties throughout Mexico that feel thoughtful, elevated, and experience-driven.

A few favorites:

These kinds of resorts are perfect for travelers who want:

  • Incredible food

  • Beautiful design

  • Relaxation

  • Wellness experiences

  • A trip that feels easy but still special

And from a planning standpoint, Mexico is often one of the easiest luxury destinations to access from the U.S.

Cruising: One of the Easiest Ways to See More

Cruising has changed so much over the years.

Modern cruises offer incredible food, entertainment, beautiful accommodations, and the ability to experience multiple destinations without constantly unpacking and repacking.

I especially love:

  • Disney Cruise Line

  • Royal Caribbean

Disney cruises are perfect for families wanting a more relaxed Disney experience with incredible service, immersive entertainment, and built-in family time, while Royal Caribbean offers a more high-energy experience with larger ships, endless activities, and something for every age group. Cruising is also one of the easiest ways to travel if:

  • You don’t want to coordinate multiple hotels

  • You like having entertainment built in

  • You want a more stress-free vacation style

And honestly? Waking up somewhere new every morning never gets old.

Disney Destinations: Still One of the Best Family Vacations

I know people sometimes underestimate Disney as a “bucket list” destination, but I truly think Disney vacations can be some of the most memorable trips families take together.

Crowds walking down Main Street USA at Magic Kingdom with Cinderella Castle and Disney balloons during a Walt Disney World vacation in Orlando, Florida.

Whether it’s Walt Disney World or Disneyland…Disney just does immersive storytelling and guest experience differently.

And while Disney can feel overwhelming to plan, that’s also where having a travel advisor makes the biggest difference. From dining reservations (read my Guide to Disney Dining Reservations Here) to park strategy to resort selection, there are so many ways to make the experience smoother and more enjoyable.

Disney is one of those trips where the right planning completely changes how the vacation feels.

Why You Should Start Planning 2027 Trips Early

The biggest trend I’m seeing right now? People are planning farther ahead than ever before.

For bucket list destinations especially, early planning means:

  • Better resort availability

  • Better pricing

  • More dining and activity options

  • Better room categories

  • Less stress overall

The best trips usually aren’t thrown together at the last minute, they’re thoughtfully planned over time.
